Most Common Types of RG Drop Cables
RG-6 cable or RG-6/U cable, is the typical cable for television (CATV), broadband internet, satellite signal transmission and for other general utilities use. These cables are suitable for high frequency applications and can be easily bent for residential installations. RG-6 cable features a thick dielectric insulation and superior shielding to protect sensitive devices from being damaged by electric current.
RG11 cable is used for wide broadband with far signal transmission. It’s a main cable line made for special purposes like burial or very long runs. As it’s a very thick cable, it needs special connectors and is very hard to bend. It’s difficult to use and isn’t recommended for most indoor installations. RG11 has lower attenuation level and it can transmit in a distance of 1,100m.
RG-59 cable is designed to deliver frequencies below 50 MHz and it composed of a lighter-weight AWG center conductor and thinner insulation and shielding than RG-6 cable. RG-59 cables are ideally suited for short runs and closed-circuit television (CCTV).
